The Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is abundant in activities ranging from mounatin and river excursions to museums and theme parks. There are so many roadside attractions, minature golf and go cart tracks that it's not worth including. Below one will find some of the most popular activities the area has to offer.
Hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park - Several hiking and nature trails lie close to Gatlinburg. Laurel Falls Trail - 2 1/2 miles round-trip, easy. Access on Little River Rd.
McCarter's Riding Stables - Guided trail rides in the mountains from one to four hours long. Open daily 8 A.M.-6 P.M. early spring to late fall. Admission. Hwy. 441 S.
Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park - Take the aerial tram to the top of the mountain, where an amusement park featuring bungee jumping, a Velcro wall, ice skating, and arcade, and other attractions awaits, including skiing in the winter. Open daily all year. Admission. 1001 Parkway
Pigeon Forge Mining Company - Mine your own precious and semi-precious stones from the North Carolina Franklin mine fields; find emeralds, rubies, sapphires and other stones. Customers can also have stones cut and polished, or cut their stones themselves. Open daily all year. Free. 2865 Parkway
Rafting in the Smokies - Enjoy rafting on the rivers of the Smokies with experienced guides. No experience necessary, great for families. Call for reservations. Located on Highway 321 six miles from traffic light #3. Admission. P.O. Box 592 Rainbow Falls Trail - 5 1/2 miles round-trip, moderate. Access on Cherokee Orchard Rd.
Smoky Mountain River Run - Take a float down the river. Open May-Sep. Admission. 3249 River Rd
Smoky Mountain Fun - Indoor go-carts on a slick track and indoor mini golf. Open daily all year. Admission. 542 Parkway
Dollywood - Rides, shows, shops and restaurants are but a part of Dolly Parton's own amusement park. Open daily Memorial Day-Labor Day; closed Thurs in May and Oct; closed Tues and Thurs in Sept; open mid-Nov to end of Dec on limited schedule for Smoky Mountain Christmas. Admission. 1020 Dollywood Lane
Ogle's Water Park - Ten waterslides, a "Lazy River" tube float ride, a wave pool and kiddie land, along with a swimwear shop, raft rentals and concessions. Open weekends in May; open daily June-August (closed last week of August), open Labor Day weekend. Admission. 2530 Parkway
